I brought home 5 ghost shrimp yesterday. I put them in the bowls with my betta fish. All was well for about 30 minutes after I put them in. Then I noticed that I could not find them. I hunted and hunted and hunted and soon discovered that they had crawled down in the gravel and were stuck (I guess ghost shrimp have no reverse function.) I carefully removed them to the aquarium where they could not get down into the gravel. They seemed fine there although they didn't move much. (okay not at all) This evening when I finally got home from nursing clinicals and went to check on them all of my betta bowls were cloudy (including the ones that were clear the night before even after having shrimp in them) and all of the shrimp were dead. I immeadiatly removed all of bettas from their bowls so I could clean them. My question is what could have caused the sudden death of all of shrimp? Why is the water suddenly so cloudy? And just so everyone knows by bettas are their normal selves. They seem unaffected by all of this. What is going on?! :

I think you probably found the reason for the shrimp death, they also may have felt scared and hid for that reason, but this is just a guess! As for the cloudy water, it does not take long for bacterial clouds to form if dead animals are left in a small tank. Do you have filters in these tanks (bowls)? If not these bacterial clouds will appear very quickly. If there is room in your bowls, a small sponge filter will help a lot, if not Wonder Shells do help for this if only to maintain better water quality until you get home. americanaquariumproducts.com/MedicatedWonderShell.htmlCarl
