I have a problem keeping a standard 55 gallon tank clean. This tank has been stripped bare, due to the fact that i cant keep the tank well filtered.
Anyway, it holds my lage mouth bass, and gar. The filter is a canister fuval 405. Currently i have the intake in the middle of the tank, and the out going on the right side of the tank(the projected water is hitting the front of the tank so the right side of the aquarium is still under current.) The left side of the tank isnt really a problem, it is where i have a XL long air tube there so it has alittle current, also the fishes can reach there as their is a large driftwood structure there.
In the past i have tried to move the intake to the right side and the out going in the middle, that prooved to be ineffective.
I am also growing these wierd pink worms in the tank, and they seem to be attaching to my fish, as they have been slow and sickly for the past days. I just finshed changing the water, got most of the worms and have adjusted the filter to what i said above. I also today took out all of the other structures(1 large plastic plant[which is could very well be the problem as when i was cleaning it, it had alot of worms on it] and 1 potted anubius nana) so the tank is bare, no gravel.
i noticed when filling the tank with warmer water they started to sit in the current, guessing they like the warm water. Seeing how both of them are wild fish i taught temp wouldnt be a big issue, only slowing down the metablism rate. So i did what i rarely do and added a heater to the tank, set it to about 75*F.
After the water change both fish are looking much better, active, and feeding.
So my question is what would be the best thing to do.
A) Buy another canister filter, but also need help with learning how to set-up the tank so max filteration can be had.
B) Buy a HOB whisper 400 for the left side and hope that helps
C) Other.
