Ok, I am trying to keep my questions in the correct area...I have hornwort and Carolina Fanwort (cabomba) in my betta fry tank. The hornwort can float on the surface, but what about the cabomba? I don't have gravel in the tank...bare bottom.
Also, no one says anything about the care of plants...what special care do live plants need? Do they need fertilization, or do they get all they need from the water?
Off subject:
Does anyone use their old fresh water fish-water to water house plants? I use it at the office...the plants are growing out of control!!!! I was using plant food, until one day I tried the fish water, and the plants took off! I had some english ivy that did not look good and now it is trailing on the ground...greener than ever!

Plants will get some nutrients form the water column, some from the substrate, and some from proper lighting. Often plants in aquariums will need to be supplemented. Here are a few ways to supplement and care for your plants; *Proper lighting; 3-4 watts per gallon of 6500 K lights. For more info about lighting, please check the link below; www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquarium_Lighting.html*Proper substrate; A fine sand and laterite mixture is good for the roots (laterite supplies iron) *Carbon (or CO2); this can supplied many ways. Using Ammo Carb (which contains carbon and some iron) and powering it and using a pinch in your finger tips (per 10-20 gal.) to spread this near the plants every day Using Co2 Generators. www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Ammocarb.html*Ferts; Products such Sea Chem Fourish Excel has bio availble carbon and other nutrients. www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Seachem.html*Proper water chemistry; Low or no phosphates, Nitrates between 15-30 ppm (not 0) *Good surface agitation; Important for gas exchange. Also a ventilated hood is important too Carl
