So I set up my first aquarium ever today. I added pure ammonia to do the cycling. I got a deluxe kit for Christmas and it has included in it some stress zyme. Does stress zyme do anything to help or hurt the cycle? Should I use it?

I bought Stress Zyme thinking it would my tank cycle, but it really didn't do anything noticeable. It's supposed to have live bacteria in it, but I've read a lot of people say that it doesn't. I would think that since you're doing a fishless cycle with ammonia you wouldn't need Stress Zyme. Just my thoughts...

stress zyme isnt really used for cycling in a sence, they have a product called cycle which is better.
stress zyme is really effective for setting up a new filter.

Bio Spira is a new product that has the live cultures of Nitrosomonas, Nitrosospira and Nitrospira bacteria in it as long it is kept cold and used before the expiration date. Fritzyme, Stresszyme and Cycle are all preserved bacteria that are generally not very good at cycling a new tank, but can be useful in aquarium and pond maintenance when added to improve bio filtration in filters in these aquariums when the pollution levels are high such as from over feeding. I still prefer the media exchange method, even though I have not used Bio Spira enough to rate it, I have used extensively all the other cycling products and methods from the fish food method, the pure ammonia method, to the old fashioned dump in cheap fish method; none has worked as well as the media exchange method www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Nitrogen_Cycle.htmlCarl
