So when I get a new animal I test their water everyday so I can get a feel for how is affects their water. Such as one of my betta's water reads ammonia sooner than the other too. It helps me avoid trouble. So I was testing my frog's water. I changed it on Saturday (100%). I have gotten an ammonia reading of 0 everyday but the nitrites are reading at 1.0. I have no idea why. I am not trying to cycle it. Anyone know why? It isn't making any sense. Anyway I am going to change their water and get rid of it. Anyone know why the nitrites are reading?

I went back a few minutes after the post and looked to see if maybe I somehow had a tube that was somehow infected or not clean (I have no idea how that would happen). I tested unused ready to go into aquarium and the nitrites were 0. So no pre-existing nitrites and no "infected" test tube. Still a puzzler. I changed my frogs' water...you would a thought the world was coming to end an end the way they were freaking out. Darting all over the place. Oh well the ammonia and nitrites are now reading 0.

It sounds like you answered the question yourself. As for the crazy frogs, maybe they thought it was the sixth friday with a double full moon annd you were going to kiss them, but they were happy as frogs and did not want to change. ;D Carl

yeah maybe they were confused. And I did solve the problem but I am not sure what caused the problem to begin with...what was it?

My guess is a dirty tube, but it is possible to have nitrite spike (but the time frame seems too short for this).

yes but I tested it before I cleaned it with different water and it tested as 0. also I tested my frog's water last night and the ammonia was 0 and the nitrites were .05. I changed the water again...I just don't know where the nitrites are coming from.
